The Tomahawk material is a thermoset/thermoplastic that was originally introduced to the cuemaking
world by Joe Pacino in the spring of 2016. Prior to public sales, it was field tested with superb results by Bob Dzuricky. I took over all sales of the material in August of 2017. The four main advantages
of this material as a ferrule are:
- It is very impact resistant. It has held up to breaking and jumping as uncapped and sleeved with a 3/8" tenon.
- It hits and plays great. It is neither soft, nor harsh/pingy.
- It is very lightweight (good for LD shaft designs). See a weight comparison here.
- It is a pleasing white that after a fine polish is impervious to chalk, has no weave, has no pitting.
Here is the original
AZBilliards thread where the ferrule material was introduced. The attention the material recieved speaks
for itself. Here is a
post made by Bob Dzuricky regarding the field testing and his general impressions of its use
as a ferrule. Please take note of his specific machining recommendations. To further address that, here
is a
machining video Bob made.
In summary:
- When drilling, use an intermediate drill prior to using a tap drill. This will result with a cleaner hole.
- This material is some tough stuff! Use fresh pieces of sandpaper to polish out tooling marks. Start with 220 and work your way up to desired finish.
- Once polished, Tomahawk ferrule material is very chalk resistant. That being said, take care in keeping tip dust/debris off the ferrule when installing tips to prevent smearing.
Pricing Notes
- The smallest diameter I can purchase this material in is 3/4". The 9/16" diameter rod is turned by
me as a service, hence the higher price.
- The prices for the 1 foot lengths are all flat rate shipped. I give a discount after purchase when ordering in quantity. Feel free to contact me for a quote for a larger order.
- When purchasing individual 1" long blanks, there is an option at checkout to choose $4 USPS first class shipping, or $8 priority shipping. I will refund any duplicate shipping charges as a result of multiple colors/sizes purchased.
- If you order a foot of rod and individual blanks at the same time, I will refund you the shipping cost of the blanks and ship the blanks with the rod
